Beijing Airport

1.03.2011

Beijing, China, Travel

Since I was a kid, I’ve always had a fascination with airports. It was as though they served more than the name given. During my childhood we moved around a lot and traveling by airplane was one way I really remembered that experience. Times have changed and the experience is more hassle than what’s it’s worth to some. Others, still enjoy being distances away from their home soil.

Depending on the flight, nature of the journey, an airport can feel warm and inviting or cold and miserable. Many with layovers can’t bother being stuck but when can airport can bestow that sense of a comfort away from a warm home – that’s when you know it’s done right.

The Beijing Airport has been my pit stop in and out of Asia a few times now. A couple 2-5 hour layovers with one overnighter that lasted 8 hours.
The airport quickly became a second home. It was warm, comfortable and very welcoming. I’ve met many people here, local workers and travels. Wandered the halls searching for good areas to sleep, photography vantage points and dine-ins takes me back as well.

On my last stop through at the Beijing Airport, I decided to give it a bit more attention with the few hours I did have.

What’s your favourite airport?

I was thinking back to all the airports I’ve been to….Calgary, Toronto, Austin Texas, Chicago, San Fran, Tacoma (Seattle), Bellingham, Portland, Pudong (Shanghai), Hong Kong, Taoyuan (Taipei), Kaohshiung (Taiwan), Liberia (Costa Rica), Juan Santamaría (Costa Rica), Narita (Japan), Manila, Caticlan (Philippines)..

I’m sure it’s still a smaller # of airports than you’ve been to!

As for my favourite, I’m not sure! I still love the look of ours, but the ceiling and open space of the Pudong Shanghai one was pretty cool.

  2. Excellent, thanks for commenting Kevin!

  3. Awesome closeup of the airport. You have captured very vivid images!
