Came out onto my balcony in evening to capture this rare glimpse of a rainbow just hanging over Metrotown. The purple wasn’t altered or added in post either; straight uncommon, yet incredible saturation.

The weather as well, very bizarre. For the past week you couldn’t go anywhere without strapping a portable A/C down your neck. Today, cold with a chance of rain.

Siberian tiger eyes / animal wallpaper

The Siberian tiger (Panthera tigris altaica) is also known as the Amur, Manchurian, Altaic, Korean, North China or, Ussuri tiger. Though it once ranged throughout Western and Central Asia and eastern Russia it is now completely confined to the Amur-Ussuri region of Primorsky Krai and Khabarovsk Krai in far eastern Siberia, where it is now protected.

Another Exclusive wallpaper send by great photographer Tomasz Wagner!

Friday I got this amazing opportunity to photograph the Shy Brothers and Paul Van Dyk at Fusion Dreams for Solid Entertainment.  Kieran, a close friend of mine who co-runs Minty Fresh Studios are in the progress of restructuring the Shy Brothers’ web site and asked me to cover the event for their new launch.

Here’s some of the photos from the event:

First engagment of the season and the weather couldn’t have been better!
The spunky couple Joanne and Matt met up with me at Rocky Point, Port Moody for a two hour engagement session. Big thanks to my assistant Micheal and his reflector skills because without him I wouldn’t have gotten some of the shots that I did.

Yesterday I was heading home by bus from a late night photography tech session. The night was very cold, it must have been at least -1 with a -3 wind chill. I waiting a good 5 minutes for my bus connection before opposing to stand in this cold no longer. Started to walking toward the direction of my house, nothing better then a good walk to keep me warm. With my camera in hand I always found the downtown east side to be the most entertaining part of town. Anything from the dancing lools on the street, homeless selling practically anything they could use their 5 finger discount on, or the crack addicts socializing about their last trippy close encounter with death experience.

One person caught my eye that day thought. I saw him resting at the corner up against the light with a sight that said “will work for food. I dashed across the street and ask him how he was doing. He had a hard time talking, but he made the effort anyway. I expressed that I found it remarkable he was willing to work for his food; as most people would rather steal it instead. He smiled and that’s when I asked him if I could take a photo. Just one quick photo was all I needed, and then I asked him to stay he as I’d return with something. As I started walking away I thought about all the times I’ve been down here; not once have I met any rude or aggressive individuals. I came back shortly once more as I promised, but this time with a cheeze burger in my hands. As I watched him put the hamburger away into his pockets my eyes drew to the writing on his cap.

"Why does your hat say baby?" - I asked

Most of my Vacation time gets accumulated in the month of December, unlike most people, I love spending time in Vancouver during the summer. It’s not that I don’t want to be home for Christmas, it’s just that I can’t stand the cold sometimes (and the rain, but that’s all year around). So, being away for the winter lets me escape to a warmer climate and let’s me start off the New Year in another country.

This year unfortunately my departure was later then expected. I had a Christmas photography gig scheduled the night before which I couldn’t pass up. Three nights before, the weather network was predicting a huge winter storm to hit the major Pacific North West. I was optimistic, it hadn’t snowed for in days, Vancouver barely gets any snow, the weather network hasn’t always been on the ball with our conditions.

The night of my flight, mother earth brought down a winter Vancouver wasn’t see in years and getting flights in and out of Vancouver was going to be a challenge. By 2pm it was snowing so hard they had to close down the runway in 30 minute internals just to plow it. Local flights were being diverted to other cities, and after about 5 excruciating hours sitting and waiting to leave the bay, they canceled all flights and shut down the airport all together. My flight was reschedule to the following day at 8am, but this didn’t leave me with enough time to connect to Cambodia. After some persuading, I was able to transfer airlines to leave at a earlier convince of 2am on Cathay Pacific. A much needed upgrade from Air Canada!
