The Mazda 3

Owner: Derek

Year: 2007

Mods: KW v2 Coilovers, White Work Emotion CR-Kai 17×9 wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 tires, Borla catback exhaust with race pipe, Simota CB-II short ram intake, Mazdaspeed rear swaybar, Matsu strut bar, Garage Vary replica front lip, Mazdaspeed spoiler satin black emblems, 6K HID low beams and fog lights.

Funny Story: None :(

Best experience: The best experience is the combination of all the new friendships I have gained from car meets, automotive forums along with learning various aspects of not just car modifications, but also the mechanics of how the car works.

Best thing about the car: The wheels, in white. 2 years ago when I was in the market for my very first set of aftermarket wheels for this car, my best friend inspired and motivated me to get the white Buddyclub SF wheels. He said it will simply stand out from all the Mazda 3′s in the Lower Mainland. From then on, I established the white on white, black and white theme for my car. This year, I made an upgrade on wheels to accomplish two more criteria – concave and flush. Hence the selection of one of my favourite wheels of all time – Work Emotions CR-Kai. Not only do I want a white on white look anymore, but I also want an aggressive stance that will hopefully set my car apart from the millions of Mazda 3 that you see on the road every 10 seconds.

The Infinity G35

Owner: Adon
Year: 2003
Owner: 4 years

Mods: Custom satin white paint job, dubbed Cocaine White.
BC racing coilovers (custom spring rates) authentic data systems spoiler molded onto trunk, inven front bumper, custom headlights with clean LED additions for an OEM look done by myself, authentic Sparco chrono road seats, replica gialla grille, fujita short ram intake, SPC and ichiba camber components all around, ARP wheel studs, matte black muteki open ended lugnuts, R1 concepts rotors with ceramic pads, authentic momo automatic shifter, custom 3 piece set of DPE wheels 10.5″ front and 12.5″ rear sizes with Nexen N3000 tires

Funny Story: When I first installed my super stiff coilovers and took my girlfriend for a ride she was wearing a cleavage exposing tanktop. The car being really stiff it bounced a lot over every bump. I kept looking over at my girl and she didn’t even realize why until I told her.

Best Experience: When I moved to the east coast and doing the road trip all the way from Vancouver to Toronto and Montreal. Just seeing Canada in all it’s glory and just how beautiful our great country is. Lot of people told me I was crazy to drive the car all that way, but to me at the end of the day a car is a car and it’s meant to be driven. It even gets driven throughout winter.

Best thing about my car: It’s a very close call between the wheels and paint job but i would have to go with the smooth semi gloss satin white paint job that looks simply ridiculous at night under direct moonlight and streetlights. It looks like some kind of milk candy and I can’t count how many times i’ve caught people feeling the paint with their own hand just to get a feel for it. The texture looks and feels so different from typical paint and even different from matte paint jobs as well since it’s a medium, a split in the middle between fully gloss and fully matte finish.

To be honest, damp rainy weather would turn away any if not most car enthusiasts. To my surprise, 90% of the people who signed up actually turned out. The other 10% I think slept in, typical on a rainy Sunday.
The group mostly consisted of car hungry photographers who brought their own cars. No exotics but a few really clean modified low to mid priced cars.

Enough talking, let’s see some photos! If you see your car, leave a comment.
We met at Queensborough Landing and all drove down as a group to the New Westminster Quay where we spent the majority of the time photographing.

A big thanks goes out to Richard Tran for setting up this meeting through Revscene.net.

Jason from Beau Photo was generous enough to bring the big guns; Profoto Pro Head, Profoto 7B 12oow/s battery pack & a giant Profoto 180cm Reflector.

We didn’t have a whole lot of room to work with the strobe, any further back and the light would sit on the road. To even out the spread, we lowered the power and threw in a Vivitar 285vh as a kicker which helped to also light the rear rim. The vivtar was set to 1/4th power and Profoto head at -3 or  ~1/4 power.

With the Mazda 3, we used another light aimed at the passenger side front panel to isolate it from the background. The last photo shows what the sky looks like 2+ stops under.

Since I was a kid, I’ve always had a fascination with airports. It was as though they served more than the name given. During my childhood we moved around a lot and traveling by airplane was one way I really remembered that experience. Times have changed and the experience is more hassle than what’s it’s worth to some. Others, still enjoy being distances away from their home soil.

Depending on the flight, nature of the journey, an airport can feel warm and inviting or cold and miserable. Many with layovers can’t bother being stuck but when can airport can bestow that sense of a comfort away from a warm home – that’s when you know it’s done right.

The Beijing Airport has been my pit stop in and out of Asia a few times now. A couple 2-5 hour layovers with one overnighter that lasted 8 hours.
The airport quickly became a second home. It was warm, comfortable and very welcoming. I’ve met many people here, local workers and travels. Wandered the halls searching for good areas to sleep, photography vantage points and dine-ins takes me back as well.

On my last stop through at the Beijing Airport, I decided to give it a bit more attention with the few hours I did have.

What’s your favourite airport?
